Elbasan is Albania's traffic hub.

Whether you travel by car or bus, you are well connected in every direction. Most tourists crowd the southern coast or stay in Tirana. Elbasan gives you the same access to everything, at a lower cost, without the tourist markup.

By Car from Elbasan

  • Tirana: 20 minutes
  • Tirana Airport: ~1 hour

  • Spille Beach: closer than Durrës
  • Pogradec / Lake Ohrid: up to 1.5 hours
  • Berat (UNESCO): ~1 hour 20 minutes
  • Vlorë: ~2 hours
  • Sarandë: daily bus connection

Something for Everyone

Nature, countryside, sea, lake, city life — all within reach. If you prefer a slow day, Ajek is walking distance and has food and refreshments on site. There are several water parks in Elbasan but Ajek is the closest to us.

Tirana in 20 Minutes

Tirana is Albania's only city that functions at EU standard. Banks, shops, restaurants, nightlife, museums, and a functioning airport. Twenty minutes by car from Elbasan. If you want a day in the capital, you go and come back the same evening. No need to stay there and pay Tirana prices.

The Coast Without the Crowds

The Adriatic coast is accessible from Elbasan in around an hour and a half. Durrës is the closest point. The beaches in the south — Vlorë, Sarandë — are further but reachable on a long day trip if that is what you want. The coast is packed in summer and the prices reflect it. Coming from Elbasan, you go when you choose and leave when you want.

Lake Ohrid

Pogradec on Lake Ohrid is about an hour and a half from Elbasan. The lake borders North Macedonia and the Albanian side is quieter and less developed than the Macedonian side. Good fish restaurants on the water. Worth a full day if the weather is right.

Berat

Berat is a UNESCO World Heritage city. The old town sits on a hillside and has been preserved in a way that most Albanian cities have not. About an hour and twenty minutes by car. A half day is enough to see the main points. A full day gives you time to eat and walk without rushing.

The E852 Highway

The main highway connecting Tirana and Elbasan runs through a tunnel under the mountains. Before the tunnel was built, the road over the mountain was an experience in itself — dramatic views, hairpin bends, and the kind of driving that reminds you that roads are a recent invention. The old road still exists if you want to take it. The tunnel is faster.

Getting Around Without a Car

Albania has a network of minibuses called furgons that connect cities and towns. From Elbasan you can reach Tirana, Berat, Pogradec, and other destinations by public transport. It is inexpensive and works well for most routes. Some rural destinations require a car or private driver. We can advise based on where you want to go.
